Contact Sheet of Unedited Images

I believe these images will be successful within my music magazine as I have tried to incorporate features and props relating to pop this includes ear phones, and appearance props which includes makeup and mirrors. Although appearance is key within the genre of pop it is also relevant within my target audience of 18- 25 year old females. They will resonate with the theme of beauty and fashion and as my magazine aims to create an aspiration concept towards the audience. The images all have different backgrounds for different purposes within my magazine, The studio shots will be featured on the front cover and contents page, and the more exciting images with the more interesting background will be within the double page spread of my products.

Construction Schedule

Week 1- This week will be focussed on research and beginning the analysis of existing media products which are similar to what I would like to create (Front cover, Contents Page, and Double Page Spread). This includes gaining inspiration from the products and to begin to think of what conventions to maintain in my music magazine.

Week 2- I will complete rough drafts which will contain many standard conventions of a music magazine. I will complete a draft of a front cover, contents page, and double page spread, linking to my secondary research.

Week 3-I aim to conduct a photoshoot for my magazine, linking to my idea. I will need clear aims of what type of shots to take (close-up, long shot, etc.), also the location of my images and the model which I will choose to feature.

Week 4- I will begin editing my images on Photoshop using various skills including airbrushing and blemish removing, and I will begin to create my front cover.

Week 5- I aim to continue with the construction of my front cover including writing cover lines, making sure alignment is correct and fits my theme of genre and audience.

Week 6- I should begin my contents page, this includes a variety of images, labelled index and cover lines, and other important conventions.

Week 7- This week I aim to begin the construction of my double page spread, which will include placing templates and guides for my title, kicker, image, pull quote, etc.

Week 8- I aim to be adding the image to my double page spread, and finalising the contents page with additional images. For example, tour images to add, and possibly a small version of magazine for the subscription information.

Week 9- This week I should be aiming to write the feature article for my magazine’s double page spread. This will include different fonts for the kicker, headline, body text, and also include conventions of pull quotes and drop caps.

Week 10- By week 10 I should be adding the final touches to my media products this includes correcting any mistakes or alignment issues.

Location/ Props/ Costumes

Location
For my first photoshoot I began by taking images in front of a plain wall. I did this as I wanted these images for my front cover. I used high-key lighting in order to get an un-shadowed background. I had decided I wanted my main front cover image as a close-up shot. I think this style of image would work well within my magazine as it is a pop based genre, and targeted at females ages 18-25. Using a close-up shot, would create an aspiration feel towards my magazine and the target audience. For the pictures for my double page spread, I wanted to achieve a more interesting background, so I went to the beach to take images with different backgrounds, including woodland locations, sandy areas and using the sky as a background and focal point.

Props
I used props within the home shots, including makeup and mirrors. I have done this to relate to my target audience. My target audience is females ages 18-25, which is stereotypically linked to make-up, fashion and appearance. As my magazine aims to create an aspirational feel towards my audience I thought the make-up props would be successful in achieving this. The genre of my magazine is based around pop music, which means appearance and make-up is significant within the genre and in creating a distinct identity and individuality of a pop star. Another prop which was significantly used within shooting was the ear phones. This highly relates to my theme of pop and music in general. And this also relates to my target audience as females aged 18-25 use modern technology for example phones to listen to their music, to keep in relevance with their busy lives. This form of listening to music is easy, fun and interchangeable, just like the pop genre itself.

Costumes
Within my shoot, I made my model wear a variety of clothing. The first costume was a casual outfit including blue jeans, and a white and red music themed t-shirt to compliment my music magazine. This gave my model a casual look, one in which resonates with an everyday outfit for a pop star. For the images for my main cover image, I wanted to achieve a very bold and pop inspired shot.  So my model was wearing a brightly coloured blue top to refer to my pop genre and target audience, as regarded by my research my music genre enjoys listening to and reading about pop genre and style of clothing. Loud colours are very relevant within the pop genre and it was important to portray this within my images. I also complimented the outfit using a loud and blue coloured eye makeup. Other outfits included a blue and white stripy dress with a burgundy cardigan and brown boots. This look was used to create an autumnal theme towards the shoot, which was enticed by the vibrancy within the sky of the shot.
